Brigitte Hendrix & Jolanda van den Broek
And Beyond -- designers Jolanda van den Broek (1977) and Brigitte Hendrix (1978)-- communicates through shape and print design. Their collections are a reflection of the zeitgeist, but one that hints at an ‘unheimlich’ reality. For And Beyond, fashion is a medium in which to evoke emotion.
Background
Jolanda van den Broek and Brigitte Hendrix both graduated from the fashion department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 2005. It was during their study that they discovered the strength of working together. Although they graduated with two individual collections, they immediatly presented their work as one. Two highlights of their graduation collections were a lifesize knitted horse, created by Jolanda, and the re-defined ‘PLO’ scarf of Brigitte.
1 + 1 = 3
The disparate talents of Jolanda and Brigitte make for an ideal combination. Jolanda works from shape and an abstract feeling surrounding the concept; she then translates this into perfect patterns. Brigitte creates the prints and colours.
